A Note to the One Trying to Hold It All Together

You don’t have to do it alone anymore.

It’s Mental Health Awareness Month. A time where we not only bring awareness, but support those who are struggling or have struggled with their mental health.

As someone who personally walks through mental health challenges, works in this space, and is pursuing a degree in it, this month is especially important to me. I often speak to anxiety, OCD, and eating disorders, because those are areas I  struggle with the most.

But this week, I want to speak to a different place.

I want to speak to the one who is simply trying to hold it all together.

There’s something about trying to hold everything together that is just…exhausting.

You’re trying to look strong, but just barely.

And no one really knows how close you feel to breaking.

You’re not thriving—you’re surviving.

Just trying to make it through today only to wake up and do it all over again tomorrow.

And it’s hard.

As I was writing this blog, the Lord brought me to Matthew 11:28:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Before this, Jesus had been speaking to people who were overwhelmed. People carrying the weight of expectations, pressure to perform, and the constant feeling of needing to hold everything together.

They were tired.

They were burdened.

They were doing their best just to keep going.

And into that, Jesus doesn’t give them more to do, He gives them an invitation to rest.

Come to Me.

Let Me carry what you were never meant to do alone.

Easier said than done. But I need you to know that you were truly never meant to carry this alone.

You do not have to hide how you’re feeling out of fear of being a burden.

You do not have to keep up appearances to prove you’re “okay.”

You do not have to earn rest.

Strength does not mean silence.

Strength is having the courage to run to God!

And just because you think you can handle it alone, doesn’t mean you should have to.

God isn’t asking you to perform.

He isn’t asking you to prove your strength.

He’s asking you to surrender.

Surrender like David.

Surrender like Elijah.

Surrender doesn’t have to be dramatic. It can look like:

  • Taking one thing off your plate this week

  • Asking for help even if it feels uncomfortable

  • Let someone in, even just a little

  • Replace “I’m fine” with honesty in safe spaces

  • Create small moments of rest (you don’t have to earn it)

  • Give it to God again and again and again if you have to!

Friend, you don’t have to come to God polished, just come to Him!

Your prayer doesn’t have to be perfect.

It can be as simple as “God, I’m tired.”

You don’t have to keep holding it all together to be worthy of love, rest, or care. You are allowed to place it into God’s hands instead of trying to hold the whole world in yours.
