Why Should Easter Matter to You?

It’s Easter Sunday, the day we, as believers, celebrate the most important moment in history: the resurrection of Jesus Christ! But before we dive into why Easter matters to you personally, let’s take a step back and reflect on how we got here.

To truly appreciate Easter, we have to start with Palm Sunday.

This was the day Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, fulfilling a prophecy written over 500 years earlier (Zechariah 9:9). The people were ecstatic, waving palm branches, shouting “Hosanna!” They knew their Savior had come to deliver them. And He had, but not in the way they expected.

What followed is what we now call Holy Week.

Monday through Wednesday were full of tension. Jesus stood up to corrupt religious leaders, taught hard truths, and prepared His heart for what was coming. While one of His closest friends, Judas, was already planning to betray Him. Imagine the emotional and spiritual weight Jesus carried through this week…fully God, yes, but also fully human.

On Thursday, during what we now call Maundy Thursday, Jesus shared His Last Supper with the disciples. He broke bread, washed their feet as a servant would, and spoke of the sacrifice to come. In Matthew 26:39, we see His raw humanity through a form of anxiety: “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” That moment of surrender is one of the most beautiful displays of obedience and love we’ve ever witnessed. He placed His anxiety and fear at the feet of His father and walked in His purpose regardless of what was to come…

Then came Good Friday.

The day Jesus was wrongly accused, handed over by the people He came to save, and sentenced to die. Pilate knew He was innocent, but still allowed the crowd to choose between Jesus and a criminal named Barabbas. They chose to free Barabbas…

By 9 a.m., Jesus was nailed to a cross. He hung there for hours, mocked, beaten, and abandoned. At 3 p.m., He took His final breath and said, “It is finished.” And just like that, the veil was torn. Heaven made a way for us.

And then… silence.

Saturday was quiet. It felt hopeless for many. But that silence didn’t mean God wasn’t working. It meant the promise was still unfolding.

Because on Sunday, everything changed.

The stone was rolled away. The tomb was empty. Jesus had risen, just as He said He would! He appeared to Mary Magdalene and Mary, telling them to go share the good news. Death was defeated. Love had won.

So, back to the question: Why should Easter matter to you?

Because this story isn’t just history or a Bible lesson. It’s personal. It’s for you.

Easter is the heart of the Gospel. It’s proof that God’s love isn’t just for “church people” or “perfect people,” it’s for YOU! Jesus didn’t stay in the grave. He rose, so that you could rise, too. Romans 6:9 says, “For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him.” His victory is your victory.

You don’t have to be defined by your past. You don’t have to carry your burdens alone. You’re not too far gone. Easter is your reminder that through Jesus, there is always hope. Always a new beginning. Always a love that never gives up on you.

It’s easy to let Easter become all about the egg hunts, the outfits, or the food. But if we lose sight of the cross and the empty tomb, we miss the whole point.

If you’ve been thinking about getting back to church, opening your Bible again, reconnecting with God, or even giving your life to Christ for the first time, let this be your reason to go today! Go not for the photos, but for the freedom. Go not for tradition, but for transformation.

Go because you have a Savior who thought you were worth dying for, and still does!
