“As for me and my house, we serve The Lord, heart and soul”

The phrase “as for me and my house, we serve The Lord, heart and soul” is a powerful quote from one of Sadie Robertson Huff’s sermons that honestly deeply moved me. By deeply moved I mean hearing her speak it the first time actually gave me chills. I recently took some time to explore its meaning and its biblical origin, Joshua 24:15. “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

In this verse, Joshua reaffirms his commitment to serve the Lord amidst a time when the Israelites had turned away from God to worship false idols encouraging the Israelites to do the same.

It’s striking how relevant this message is today, particularly with the prevalence of new-age practices and the prioritization of materialistic pursuits over spiritual well-being. This concept of false idols spoken about in Joshua, isn’t new; they simply take on different forms over time. However, just because it isn’t new doesn’t mean the tricks don’t still apply today. It’s essential to recognize that true and lasting joy can only come from serving God alone.

So, what does “as for me and my house, we serve The Lord, heart and soul” mean? Simply put, it signifies the determination to not be swayed by the false promises of worldly success, wealth, or self-gratification. In my house, I am committed to serving God wholeheartedly, even when faced with challenges or when the path diverges from my initial desires. I firmly believe that a house that serves God heart and soul is a house that will never fall! FYI… this phrase isn’t just about a house.
