today is a day that some of us will return to church for the first time in a while, some of us will attend for the first time, and some of us will return as we do every Sunday. Itās a day we get dressed up in our new Easter clothes and listen to a story we know so well; we get easter baskets, eggs, and candy. It can be easy to get wrapped up in these earthly things, but never forget today is our Saviorās resurrection! TYJ
iām going to take a different approach to the Easter story so bear with me! weāre in John 20 & Genesis 3 for this oneš«¶š»
it has been three days since Jesus defeated sin by dying on the cross. this story begins as Mary and Mary Magdalene make their way to the tomb with spices to prep His body for burial. when they arrived, the stone had been moved, and Jesus was missingā¦
iām going to focus on Mary Magdalene and Jesus now
Mary was devastated that Jesus was āmissingā and sat crying by the tomb when Jesus himself came to her; at first, she didnāt recognize Him, but when she realized it was Jesus, she was overjoyed!! she went and told the disciples what she had seen as HE instructed her to do! this moment with Jesus and Mary was such a beautiful and significant moment because He showed Himself to her first, and His first wish after the resurrection was for MARY to go and tell the good news!! this signified the woman gaining back her voice from Genesis 3:16(notice the parallels of the gardens and Eve/Mary)! Mary was not chosen because she was the only one there. God is INTENTIONAL. He chose Mary to give her a voice to proclaim His word not to remain silent and in the background! she was no longer bound to the Old Law but introduced to the New Covenant! Galatians 3:28 tells us that EVERYONE has a purpose in Christ. He gave her a new role and a new calling!
the story of Easter may be familiar, but it seems to reveal more and more to me each time I read it. remember, Easter is so much more than dressing up, egg hunts, etc. it is the joyous celebration of our Savior! HE IS RISEN, DEATH HAS BEEN DEFEATED, AND THE NEW COVENANT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED!!!
Matthew 28:16-20
