from the beginning: relationship with God?

why is it that we hear so much about relationships over religion?? don’t we have a relationship with God just because we attend church every Sunday?? these are some of the questions that filled my dms when I asked what questions you guys had as new Christians. this is one I had as I was growing in my faith. I hope you’re able to find the answers you need today!

so why do we need a relationship with God? you might say the obvious, “to be a good Christian,” but honestly, what does this even mean? to have a relationship with God is to have a best friend. It’s having God in your corner every day to talk to, rant to, to love and be loved, AND MORE! God is absolutely AMAZING to offer this type of friendship to us. All we have to do is ask and work towards it.

so, how do we obtain a relationship like this? well, think of your earthly best friend! when you guys first met, you didn’t know that much about that person. you had to learn about them over time by spending them with them, learning their character, personality, etc. It’s the same way with God!! see, God already knows you so well, so to develop that relationship with Him, you must read your bible daily and spend intentional time with Him, whether in worship music, prayer, quiet time, or ALL THREE! it takes time to build that relationship, but that’s what makes it so special. we take time and care to know Him like He knows us!

a relationship with God cannot be one-sided. it is up to us to deepen that relationship and WANT to know Him! God always waits for you to sit at the table He set for you. will you take that chair every day? will you talk to Him every day? will you work to know Him so that He may transform you? THAT is a relationship with God. a loving but undeserving relationship with the one who sets a seat at His table for us EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I hope you take it today🤍
