It’s not about you.

My first full week of 2025 was spent at two Christian conferences. I took this week trying to gather my thoughts and post a blog that I felt encompassed everything I learned from some of the most knowledgeable speakers: Jackie, Louie, Levi, Ben, Dr. Loritts, and Earl. During my time in prayer and study, I kept hearing the phrase Louie spoke during his message: “It’s not about you.” I think in a world of “self-bettering” or a society telling you to “put yourself first,” it’s easy to get lost in this idea of self-idolization. If you struggle with this, I hope you’re able to find encouragement in this post!
Before I start, I want to say that though this might be a harsh realization for some of you (myself included), don’t completely dismiss the idea. Pray over it and allow God to work in you!
I won’t sit here and recap Louie’s whole message because, honestly, I think you should go watch it. What I will do is highlight some main points God has been speaking over me this week.
First, stop living in a “me before you” ideology. While pouring into our own cups is so important, sometimes we forget that we’re supposed to pour Jesus into those cups. We get caught up in secular desires and dreams and we forget how truly small we are. We are a speck in a very big world. God is the ONLY important thing! Not that platform you’re trying to build, not that relationship, not that degree, not that social media account, nothing. God is the MOST important thing in your life, and it’s foolish to allow self-ideology to take precedence over that. Though those goals are amazing to set, don’t forget who gave them to you. It’s not about you.
Second, love your neighbor. God sent His Son to DIE for me and you. DIE for us. He truly loved us over Himself. He calls us to have that love for our neighbor. There is a verse that calls us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). Meaning, as humans, we will naturally place ourselves above others. We are selfish. That is a reality. But God calls us to be better. He calls us to place the same love we have and want for ourselves onto everyone else in our lives. That means people we agree with, disagree with, don’t like their sin, disagree with their lifestyle, etc. We cannot control how others react, only how we react. Love them anyway. It’s not about you.
Finally, the weight was never yours to hold. He really singled out the weight of God’s glory during his message. Explaining how the weight we try to bear by placing ourselves above God was never ours to carry. God is the only one who can truly handle the weight of the world. So why is it on your shoulders? Why are you allowing the world to get the best of you? Why are you trying to do it all on your own? It’s never meant to be you. You’re just a speck. You’re not equipped for the weight God carries. So stop trying. It’s not about you. It’s about Jesus!
2025 is not about you. It’s not about “main character energy.” You were never meant to carry the glory or be satisfied by the things of the world. You’re placing unrealistic expectations on a body that truly is never going to live up to them. It’s not about you. It’s not about how many degrees you have, how many books you write, how many followers you have. It’s not about me. It’s not about how many blogs I write, how many followers I have, how much content I post, how many opportunities I receive, or how many degrees I obtain. It’s just not.
We were never ever ever meant to carry the weight of the world. God is. God deserves ALL the glory and ALL the praise. Without God, we wouldn’t be where we are. He uses each of us to fulfill His ultimate purpose for the betterment of our lives in HIS GLORY. Never our own selfish desires.
Make 2025 about Him. Not you. Because it was never about you. Thank goodness it’s not about us. Because I don’t know about you, but I could not do God’s job. He loves us so much that He takes on all that weight. The weight we could never even imagine, even ATTEMPTING to carry.
My week of conferences showed me how absolutely beautiful God’s love is. How amazing it is to place my hope, faith, joy, and love in someone better than any personal “glory” I could attempt to obtain. It’s not about me. It’s not about you. It’s about God. It’s about having a father who loves us enough to bear the weight we can’t even imagine.
This week felt like drinking water after months of wandering in a desert. I was so burnt out. I had been broken down by people, school, jobs, etc. I was pretty much at my end with a lot of things in my life. But this week renewed me. This week reminded me why I started blogging, writing my book, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, my Ph.D. program, and my position as a youth leader. It was never about me. It was always for His glory.
I have attached a link to the Passion website for you to see all these amazing sermons! You won’t regret taking the time to listen. You have until January 31st!!
