One Foot In and One Foot Out

Can I give some tough love for a second?

You cannot have one foot in the world and one foot in the Word.

One foot brings life, while the other brings death; two contradicting ideas. Both cannot coexist in our hearts. We have to make a choice.

I saw a TikTok today that showed a girl who used to get blackout drunk and is now saved (celebrating her right now🥳), but in her comments, I saw a lot of “you can do both.” It’s so sad to see these comments because it proves how much satan has influenced us—even us Christians.

Let me first say that I fully understand that drunkenness is the sin, but this isn’t going to be about the alcohol…So many of us try to affirm others in their sin because we also don’t want to stop doing those things. I used to be so guilty of this. I was justifying partying, drinking, going to bars, trying to find a “grey area” when the Bible truly is black and white.

Let me tell you the hard truth: It is impossible to fully follow Jesus while chasing the things of this world. As Christians, we are called to be set apart. We aren’t of this world. We are merely passengers waiting to be called home. So we know that the things of this world will never fulfill us like Jesus does.

The Bible includes many verses about this, but I always go to Galatians 5:16-24, 1 Timothy 6:11-12, and Revelation 3:14-17. These verses give us a particular “formula” to live with both feet firmly planted on the side of life. They tell us how to be all in with Jesus and flee from the things that offer only a moment of happiness, pleasure, etc. Pursue righteousness, Godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight hard with and for the faith we claim. Embrace the life God has called us to, which is ultimately eternity with Him. Do all this with other believers who know you have claimed Christ and want to walk with you and hold you accountable for that call.

Friend, I am not writing to call you out, offend you, or hurt you in any way. I am writing to offer you that tough love I wish other believers had shown me. A life all in with God is completely attainable and the best thing I have ever done with my life! I hope you choose to plant both feet firmly in Christ today!

“But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

1 Timothy 6:11-12
