sometimes we just need distance

as we grow, change, and mature we begin to shift in our relationships with people. this could be with our friends, family, significant others, acquaintances, honestly anyone we frequently interact with. I recently read something and the author touched on some examples of reasons we should distance from certain people in our lives. upon reading that I realized there needed to be some serious changes in my life.

as we grow sometimes our friendships grow with us and sometimes they just…don’t. sometimes we’re slowly left out of things and sometimes we’re removed all at once. sometimes the company we keep doesn’t always have our best interest at heart. unfortunately, i’ve had my fair share of these issues. i’ve been left out of things with people I considered close friends and i’ve slowly grown apart from others. i’ve had “friends” and acquaintances who do absolutely nothing but throw backhanded negativity directly to my face or speak horribly about me behind my back. overall i’ve realized there are some relationships i need to step back from.

God calls us to love absolutely everyone and that is exactly what we should do, but you can love from a distance. you do not have to surround yourself with people who do not truly love and care for you. God tells us many times in the bible to beware of the company you keep (Proverbs 13:20, 1 Corinthians 15:33, Proverbs 27:17, Proverbs 22:24-25). the company we keep can shape our character. always let that be a good thing, not a bad one! not everyone you cross paths with will be in your life forever. God brings people in your life and removes them to fulfill His plan for you. if you feel called to distance yourself from certain people in your life, LISTEN! God will always lead you down the right path. distance is a healthy thing. you might not know every conversation happening about you but He does🤍
