why I start my day with God

you always hear Christian influencers telling you to start and end your day with God, but rarely do we talk about why. we’re about to get personal here, so buckle up.

starting my day with God does a lot for me. it puts me in a better mood, and it makes me feel more at peace. It helps me grow in the qualities of Jesus and SO. MUCH. MORE.

to easily put God in your day, He must be the first one you spend time with. now, it’s common to let your phone be the first thing you look at. usually, after looking through your phone, you’re seeing the negative things of the world, maybe in comment sections, posts, etc. therefore, you’re starting your day on a negative note, and by the end of it, you don’t even “have time” to spend with Him. when you put God first, something entirely different happens. there are so many pluses to spending time with Him and not picking up your phone first. if you spend time reading His word and a devotional, it helps your brain's functionality. you can think more clearly and be more prepared to accomplish what you must do that day. you also begin your day with a grateful heart, not an expecting one. if you wake up grateful, you go into the day with a more positive outlook. this can be beneficial with relationships, friendships, work, etc. you can begin your day without the enemy clouding your judgment. the enemy can’t shout out all the harmful worldly desires of your flesh if your heart is overjoyed by God! overall, spending time with God first sets your day up to be more positive and peaceful!

a way I love to explain this is through a restaurant analogy. think about your favorite local mexican restaurant. if you eat a few baskets of chips (y’all all know it’s possible😅) you’ll most likely not be hungry and end up not ordering food. side note, I LOVE going to my local restaurant for the chips. it’s the same thing with God. if you spend time with Him in the morning every day you’ll be so full on His word that you won’t crave the worldly desires of your flesh. if you don’t, then you will be in this constant state of wanting more.

from experience, when I don’t begin my day with God, I don’t have a good day. the enemy clouds my mind, and I tend to believe everything God doesn’t say about me. skipping one day becomes two, then three, then all a sudden, it’s been a month since I’ve picked up my Bible. don’t skip your mornings with God even if you say “I’ll do it later.” do it now AND later!

there are mornings when I don’t feel like it, but then I remember… Jesus died for me so that I may live. He constantly puts me first. He is always beside me, waiting to hear me speak to Him. how could I ignore Him when He has never ignored me? He has offered us daily bread, and it’s up to us to eat or starve. which one will you choose to do today?

“In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.” Psalm 5:3
