your quiet times don’t have to be an “aesthetic”

if you’re on the Christian side of TikTok and Instagram, you probably see so many people posting cute, aesthetically pleasing Bible photos. their Bibles are perfectly highlighted, notes are perfect, colors match perfectly, etc. I used to think that if I didn’t try this hard on my notes, I wasn’t doing it right. if you’re trying to match these aesthetic Bible photos, this one’s for you!

I will say, like most people, I tend to only post Bible photos when I know it’s going to look aesthetically pleasing… let me tell you a little story about my faith journey and this topic. when I started taking my faith seriously, I bought a new Bible, aesthetic pens, highlighters, sticky notes, and Bible tabs. I couldn’t wait to start making my Bible look like all those girl’s Bibles on Instagram. I worried so hard about whether that page would be post-worthy, and sometimes I missed the message entirely… i’ll be honest: a lot of the Bible photos i’ve posted in the past have probably focused more on the aesthetic than God…

we cannot treat our quiet time with God as an aesthetic for Instagram. we must be sure we’re connecting with God, receiving His message, and fixing our hearts! all that highlighting and aesthetic note-taking is a complete waste if you’re not spending that time INTENTIONALLY. you have to work on your heart and your relationship with Him BEFORE considering if your notes are “aesthetic” or not

the “Christian aesthetic,” in my opinion, is far from who we are as Christians. we’re messy, we make mistakes, our life isn’t perfect, the colors don’t always match, aka we’re HUMAN! the only perfect person in this relationship is GOD! if your notes don’t look perfect, that’s okay. if your Bible is messy, that’s okay. if your notes don’t match the “Christian aesthetic,” that’s okay! the only thing that matters is your HEART behind your quiet time🤍

ps: you don’t have to highlight it pretty in your Bible for God to use it to change your heart🌿
